frustrating with "Facebook Pages" is you cannot tag "people" in the initial post! I'm not sure if Facebook did this on purpose, but it seems like a big oversight.

Here is the best workaround I've found...

When you are using Facebook as a Fan Page, you CAN'T TAG people in a post on the page. Frustrating right? However, you CAN TAG "other pages" in a post or in a picture. Additionally, you CAN TAG people in a picture, but only "your friends".

What is really strange to me, is that you can tag a friend in a comment below the post, just not in the original post. However you must be logged in as a person - not a page. This is the best workaround I've been able to figure out.

Click Image Above for Larger View

Just to be clear - I thought I'd further clarify:
The best workaround is to first create your post without any tagging. Then immediately add a comment to your post with the tags. You can tag people in a post on a Facebook Page ONLY IF you're using Facebook as yourself and not as your Page.

Many people have the pages they own set to always post and comment as the page -- instead of as them self. To change this, click on "Manage" then "Edit Page" located in the Admin Panel on the top right. Next, click on "Your Settings" in the left sidebar menu. This will show your posting preferences and your email notifications.

>> If always post and comment as your page name is checked, you can’t tag people in posts.
>> If you uncheck the box, then you CAN TAG people in the comment area of the original post.

Finally, don't forget to click on save changes.

I tend to use the "Your Settings" feature often. Sometimes I have it checked, and sometimes I uncheck it depending on what the post I'm creating for that day is.

~Lisa Libutti, Social Media Specialist
www.LisaLibutti.com

Facebook Tip! Pin a Facebook Post to Timeline
Facebook Tip! You can "pin" any of your posts to the top! If you don't unpin it after 7 days, it will unpin automatically.

Sweet feature for pages...

New Feature: "Pin To Top" Of Your Facebook Page Timeline

One of the smartest features of timeline for pages and brands is the ability to pin posts to the page. This is really a sweet new feature that helps call out specific posts so they don't get pushed down or lost in the new Facebook timeline.

The pin feature might be the best thing Facebook added recently to our Timeline. You can have a static post from your page always remain at the top of your page....Brilliant! Just keep in mind, you can only pin ONE thing at a time.

To pin a post to the top of your Page:

Click the pencil icon in the upper-right corner of your Page's post

Select Pin to Top

Your pinned post will move to below the sharing tool in the top left of your Page's timeline, and an orange flag will appear in the upper-right corner.

Lisa Libutti, Social Circle Media
http://facebook.com/socialcirclemedia

5 Tips for Managing Your Online Brand

WHEN STEVE JOBS INTRODUCED THE IPHONE IN 2007, he said: “I skate to where the puck is going to be…not to where it’s been.” That said, if you were to ask me where the puck is going in social media, from a business perspective, I would say without hesitation: reputation management.

Brands have never been at greater risk than they are at this moment. And, that risk grows not by the day, but by the minute. The power of the people is becoming greater than the people in power. Thanks to social media, consumers wield enormous power now—and that power is growing logarithmically.

That is why reputation management has become such an important component of social media. Online reputation management is highly-nuanced, but relatively simple to grasp. It requires three things: planning, proactive listening — and clear and well-defined response mechanisms.

Here are five actionable insights to help you build a cohesive, effective brand management strategy:

1. Face Facts.
You may have spent untold amounts on branding, website design and corporate communications, but these efforts pale next to the hundreds of millions of people sharing ideas and opinions in social media. They are talking in public about companies—and in doing so, they are defining brands. You need to accept this reality — and not cavalierly disregard “brand management” as a “nice to have.” It’s a “gotta have. Right now.”

2. Listen. (No, Really Listen.)
Put your ear to the ground and start listening to what people are saying. Not doing this because you are “afraid of what you’ll find” could be the death knell of your business. To move from good to great, you must face brutal facts and improve that which needs improving. Be unwavering on this. Perform searches for your company on the main social media platforms: Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIN. What are people saying? Is it accurate? Don’t get defensive if you find something negative. In fact, those can be valuable business insights. If a blogger flames your company, don’t ask: “How can we get rid of this post? Ask: “Are they right? What can we do to fix it?” Then fix it and let them know you’re fixing it. I also advise against leaning too heavily on technologies for online reputation defense and “sentiment analysis.” I speak from personal experience: At the time of this writing, even the very best technologies miss critical posts, misjudge “sentiment”–and lack the “human element” so important to effective brand management. Your brand is too important to leave to chance. Put human eyes on this stuff.

3. Engage with Grace and Humility.
You cannot control the conversation, but you can be part of it. If someone posts something negative about your brand, even if it’s not accurate, others will pile on in a mob-like fashion. For every moment you allow that to continue, you risk permanent damage to your brand. But, you cannot barge in. Again: you may work for a $50 million corporation, but guess what? You come to the social media table with one vote, just like everyone else. Engage like a person, not a corporation – lest you merely fan the flames of public discontent.

4. Unlearn What You’ve Learned.
Gone are the days when you can issue a press release to respond to crises—and be done with it. “Corporate statements” are now not only largely ineffective, they can be counterproductive. If I were advising Bank of America amidst their debit-card-distaster, I would have said, point-blank: "Look, you were being greedy. $5 a month to use a debit card? Come on. Consumers are already spitting-angry with banks. So, do something unprecedented. Set a new standard for banks: admit it. Apologize (and mean it). And, commit to not nickle-diming customers anymore. If you do that, you will win the hearts of millions. If you keep doing business-as-usual, you will continue to get pummeled--with increasingly devastating blows."

You can turn your most vitriolic critic into your most vocal evangelist if you have humility and listen. Remember: social media is not a media. It’s not marketing. It’s a human relationship. Treat it as such, and your brand management strategy will be more effective than most.

As Oliver Blanchard says in his must read Social Media ROI (Que, 2011): “Never get defensive, never take attacks personally, and never allow yourself to be drawn into an argument. Present the facts calmly and professionally, monitor the impact of your activities on topics relating to your brand and overall sentiment, and either press on with your response or move on.”

5. Do the Right Thing.
When you engage in social media, be honest, care about your customers–and do the right thing. This is Business 101. Social media, with its new-school technologies, has ushered in a return to old-school business practices. I love that. If you make a mistake, acknowledge it. Offer to fix it—and then, do it. It’s not good for business; it’s great for business. Bring “old school” to “new media.” Shakespeare aptly summed up effective brand monitoring and reputation management: “Mind your speech a little lest you should mar your fortunes.”

An effective online reputation management strategy is not something you can put off until tomorrow, because guess what? An army of empowered consumers are defining your brand. Today.

Eric Harr is the new Social Media Expert for CBS News and the Founder & President of Resonate Social, a boutique, integrated marketing agency in San Francisco. Users will be able to click on any tracks that appear in their ticker feed and listen to them as well. Under the function that's currently being rolled-out, a chat window will also open so you can discuss the track with your friend. Furthermore, Spotify said the app would contain a Music Dashboard so Facebook users can discover the music that's trending with their friends.

If you're not already a Spotify user, you'll first need to download the music-sharing software to your PC and sign-up for an account. And if you're already a user of the service, you'll need to connect your Spotify account with your Facebook profile and enable Timeline sharing.

Here's how...

Step one
If you don't already have Spotify installed on your machine, download it from Spotify's site and then log-in or sign-up for an account. If you have an account already, launch the software and log-in. You'll be asked to if you want to link your Spotify and Facebook accounts. To do this press Connect with your Facebook account. It's also worth noting that if you don't want recommendations based on the tracks you listen to that appear in your Facebook timeline, then you'll need to uncheck this box.

Step two
Now, you'll be asked to enter you Facebook log-in and password. You can also opt-to remain logged-in to Spotify while you're logged in to Facebook. To do this, make sure the box is checked. Press Log in.

Step three
Next, you need to connect your Spotify account to your Facebook Timeline, so songs that you're listening to will be visible by others, As well as needing your email address, Spotify also says it needs your birthday. If you're happy with this, press Log-in and add to Timeline. It's also worth noting, by default this information will be made public on Facebook. However using the drop-down menu next to the globe icon, you can adjust it to various Facebook groups you have set-up.

Step four
To see what your friends have been listening to, simply Open the View menu from the top of the Spotify window and select People List. Any of your friends that have linked Spotify to their Facebook Timeline will appear on the far right-hand corner of the screen. Simply click on their picture to view their public playlists and double click on any track to listen to it. You can also press Subscribe next to the playlist so see when tracks are added or removed to the playlist.

Step five
It's also worth noting that by selecting Private listening from the Menu option, you'll be able to ensure that the tracks you are listening to aren't shared with your Facebook friends. Great for when you want to rock out to Chas 'n' Dave or The Wurzles.

Upcoming Features Discovered in Google+

Is Google+ adding features?

A recent series of updates have inspired both excitement and ire among Facebook users, but Google has been making its own waves in the social networking space -- and there may be a few tricks up its sleeves too.

Google+ skyrocketed in popularity after the search giant opened up its social network to the public last week, according to data from Experian Hitwise, with one analyst concluding that the site has already hit 50 million users. In light of this new traffic surge, Google looks primed to unveil a flurry of new features, as one curious user discovered while diving through the site’s code.

Matt Mastracci, a programmer by trade and CTO of the tech startup Gripe, was looking for a way to use the new “Circle sharing” feature before it was officially rolled out when he inadvertently discovered five new upcoming features yet to be announced.

A Google spokeswoman told FoxNews.com it doesn't comment on future products or features. Mastracci has no such qualms, discussing the features in a post on his Google+ profile, as well as on his blog.

Voice capabilities

Mastracci found clues of potential Google Voice integration -- such as a setting labeled “Allow people to phone me from my profile.” This could open the door for free and easy phone calls with friends and family through the site, and take it head-to-head with Facebook's recent partnership with Skype.

“Google Experts”

Google also looks to be taking on the likes of Yahoo Answers and Quora as Mastracci uncovered what looked to be an internal Q&A platform between users and designated “experts.” According to the code, Google promises that “you can get answers” from the “community in about 5 minutes!”

Wall posting

For all intents and purposes, much of the fundamental functionality of the Google+ and Facebook overlap comfortably except one glaring exception -- the ability to post on other users’ walls. Not for long, according to Mastracci, who found evidence of potential profile scribbling in the future.

One difference will be the sharing settings: The messages will only be available to the person whose wall it is, he said.

Expanding photo features

Photos is one area that Facebook completely dominates. With 140 billion pictures on the site and a further 70 billion expected by year end, Facebook stores 10,000 more photos than the Library of Congress. To compete, Google+ will need more robust photo features; it looks like some are in the pipeline, Mastracci suggests. The programming sleuth found evidence of new photo options, such as being able to view photos sent from the messenger service.

Privacy settings made easy

Privacy has been an area of contention for Facebook and it's also something that Google has been extremely wary about, giving users as much power as possible when it comes to what they're sharing and who they're sharing it with. Now, to further simplify the process, it looks like Google+ will have four privacy presets, each giving users a varied experience from "public on the web" -- for those looking for the Big Brother experience -- to "Lockdown," which allows users to stop sharing completely and temporarily hide their information.

Since these features are still unannounced, no one knows for sure when or if they will go live.

"It's worth noting that we are always experimenting with new ways to improve Google+," a Google spokeswoman told FoxNews.com. "Not every experiment makes it into the product, but we test new things on a regular basis."

But given Facebook’s latest activity as well as the surge in traffic on Google+ -- which saw a 1,300 percent increase over the last week -- sooner rather than later would be a reasonable guess.

Original article: http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2011/09/27/5-upcoming-secret-features-discovered-in-google/

Facebook Changes And More Changes Are Coming

If you have been spending much time on your favorite, or least favorite, social networking site and have noticed more than a few changes you are not alone. In recent days we have been subjected to “improved” friends lists, a “subscribe” button, new news feeds, bigger pictures and more. Not being the smartest guy with my social networking, I go to the experts at The Facebook Blog for some help on the recent changes. Let’s take them one at a time.

The Subscribe Button.

By using this button, it gives you the ability to pick and choose the types of content you would like to see from individual friends. You can include in you newsfeed all, most or only the most important information from each of your friends. This button also gives you the ability to follow the lives and actions of the “interesting” people that you are not friends with. For a tutorial from The Facebook blog, click here.

The Improved Friends List.

Personally i have had new friends list pop up for Casper folks, Kelly Walsh High School, my employer, a family list and more. This gives one the ability to share with certain groups of friends, certain stories. Seems a bit confusing but makes a lot of sense if you have a specific story to share only around the office or an old recipe that you would like to share only with your family. Again a great tutorial is here.

The New News Feed.

Perhaps the one change that is making the biggest waves is this one because it is changing the look of the Facebook home page and we HATE change. This change however, is supposed to enhance the experience of your Facebook visit whether you visit hourly, daily, weekly or once a month.

Now take a deep breath because it doesn’t sound like we are done with the changes just yet. There are, according to this story at Mashable, even bigger changes being rolled out on Thursday with a music and media platform being launched. That this is coming out at the same time that Google+ is being made available to everyone is no coincidence as each of these social networks is doing its best to get the most of your time at the keyboard.

by: Brian Scott, K2radio.com

There’s been a great deal written about it in comparison with Facebook and to some extent Twitter, but I’d like to draw on one of the key ways that it differs from the two; SEO.

Having done some digging to find out a bit more about how it works, we found that Google+ is a great source of links that can be used for SEO benefit. It’s interesting to see that Google has opted to allow links that pass page rank in contrast to the other major networks such as Facebook and Twitter which only allow links that Google’s spiders can’t follow, and I think it’s likely that this could be part of the Google+ project strategy to grow as big as the two social media giants.

With Google co-founder Larry Page confirming the popularity of the network last week, it can be assumed that the Google+ proposition to users is strong, and generating links from the network for SEO benefit could become all the more important for the future.

At present, there are a number of potential areas for the placement of links that pass on SEO benefit to the destination webpage:

Google+ posts - The area that is likely to be used most frequently by users is the posting feature; links found here are valuable links for SEO. This is also likely to be the place where the most dynamic links are found, so it’s probable that Google may only assign short-term weight to these links.

The “About Me” section - In addition, the ‘About Me’ section of each user’s profile can include SEO beneficial links too. This may be of great advantage to users with their own blogs, and indeed brands and businesses who have subscribed for the opportunity to set up business pages on Google+ akin to brand pages on Facebook. Depending on the authority of the user or brand, these static links may be of more value than those in Google+ posts.

As a result of the above we may start to see some of the more search-minded brands encouraging their consumers to engage with their content through Google+, as a means of directing valuable links back towards whatever social object they have created. This may be difficult at present given that brands can’t yet establish themselves on the network, but it’s certainly a possibility for the future, since allowing brands to engage with fans is likely to be a key source of revenue for Google. In addition, the integration of the +1 button earlier this year shows up within users’ Google+ profiles, adding yet another incentive for brands to implement the +1 button too.

From my perspective working at a social media agency, this is certainly another change on the horizon that it’s imperative to keep on top of and an opportunity to be taken.

<fieldset class="bio"><legend>About Alex Smith</legend> Geordie digital guy @ Punch Communications, big fan of football, guitars, The Independent, and Final Fantasy. http://www.twitter.com/alexsmith10 </fieldset>

5 Key Tips About The New Google+ (Google Plus)

You have to be living under a rock if you haven’t heard about Google+ (Plus), the newest social network under the massive internet conglomerate. Google+ is now open to all of its users after being closed off to a selected few who could shell out invites to those cool enough to be included in the network. Google has set its sights on making a popular and user friendly social network after bombing on its predecessor, Google Wave, that tanked before it got off to a good start. Google+, some think, is a more stripped down (or bastard child) of Facebook that boasts the best of Facebook and Twitter, and so far, I really like it.

But just like any new thing on the innerwebs, there are always those that simply don’t get it--I mean, how many times did you have to explain to someone how to use Twitter before people finally caught on? Google+ has its advantages and I can see it being one of the most used social networks, especially since they learned from their unfortunate Wave debacle in 2009. There are skeptics that aren’t ready to get on Google+, or those that are on it and spend more time complaining about it than they do using it.
Here are my 5 things people should stop doing when referring to Google+.

5 things people should stop doing when referring to Google+ (Google Plus)
By The Cubical Chick

1. Complaining that anyone can add you on Google+:

Um, unless your account is private on Twitter, then anyone can follow you there as well. Not sure why people have an issue with anyone adding them because Twitter is the model for this feature on Google+. You add people that you follow and to your circle who you think add value to your stream, and if they want, they can add you to their circle or circles. Facebook is more closed, in that you have to approve people to be your friend, but Google+ allows for easy access--if you are using it to network, especially for business purposes, then of course you should be accessible to people. Duh!

2. Comparing Google+ to other social networks:

It’s a given that Google+ is a relative of both Twitter and Facebook—, picking it apart and comparing it to these platforms is a waste of time. I am already hearing data that Google+ is going to have more users than Facebook in a set amount of time, but this is social media—anything goes and anything can happen. Who would’ve thought in 2006 that Myspace would be a dinosaur in 2011?

3. Being a hater:

Come on, social media is about creating new ways for us to engage and network. I can understand you not jumping on the Google+ bandwagon, but why complain about it? If it isn’t your thing, carry on. No need to frown.

4. What is Google+?:

You are on the internet, folks. If you have a question, it’s easy to get an answer. You don’t know how many times I’ve been asked what Google+ is. And it’s not that I don’t mind sharing information, but it’s easy to get an answer on your own. Use Google to find out what Google+ is. Or better yet, sign up and play around with it yourself to get firsthand experience.

5. Discounting Google+ as a viable social network:

When social networking, you need to be everywhere. I want to reach as many readers as possible so you won’t find me NOT being on something that can create opportunities for me to engage with others. If you aren’t on Google+, then you aren’t using social media to your advantage. Create your page via your email address (before someone else takes your name) and explore. You need to be everywhere your readers are (if you are a blogger) so saying no to a viable social network is a big no/no, in my humble opinion, of course.

Google+ is off to a running start and I see myself using it more and more for my blog and to connect with others.

Are you on Google+? What are your thoughts?

Written By The Cubicle Chick

FREE BOOK: Social Media ProBook - a 42-page Free E-book

The Social Media ProBook is a 42-page free e-book collaboratively written by a cross-section of social marketers from brands and agencies, analysts, and social support professionals across both business-to-business and business-to-consumer industries.

This advanced resource was written for professionals with some working knowledge of social marketing. The product is currently in invitation-only Beta but will soon be released to the general public.

Google surprised the world this week when it unveiled Google+, the search giant's answer to Facebook. It's huge, it's social, and it's totally in your face. Google is clearly betting big on its latest foray into social networking, and it's making a point of highlighting many of the differences--and potential advantages--over Facebook.

Google's New Social Network is called: Circles

Circles (kinda like, Social Circles) are what Google calls the various groups that you can organize your friends into. Once you've got them set up and populated, you then can pick which circles get to see the stuff you share.

Some Are Already Praising the new Google+ Product

While tech enthusiasts are widely praising the new Google+ Product, some have found that the one feature that could take away from Facebook where it’s most dominant: Time on the site.

Facebook users are known for staying on the site for over half an hour a day. Yet many would ask the question, “Why on earth would anybody switch to Google+ from Facebook?”

However the reality is ... that users won’t have the option of not using Google+.

FACT: Google's Network already has more users than Facebook

Google has over one billion users. Users aren’t going to suddenly leave Facebook in droves, they’re just going to spend more time on all the sites in Google’s network.

As you're browsing around Google-powered sites there’s occasionally a red notification alert that pops up and immediately grabs your attention. Soon enough users are clicking through the various notifications and seeing what their friends have shared and who has recently begun sharing with them.

Is Google+ A Facebook Killer?

No, Google+ is not a “Facebook killer, but despite the company’s numerous failed attempts at getting into social media, the new Plus product gives users no other option but to accept the fact that Google is becoming exactly that: social.

This is clearly just the start. Once Google+ becomes stable and more widely used, the company will attempt to compete with Facebook where it matters most by building an entire social platform. The notifications are just one indicator of what lays ahead.

Have you tried Google+ yet? What do you think of their new Project?

Sources: Google introduces the new Google+ Project! | Click here to view the Google+ Demo

Abridged: Peter Pachal, PCMag.com

10 Most Common Oversights in Digital Marketing

1. I have 100k fans in Facebook, I rule: Not really, number of followers doesn’t matter; the work is to create a relationship where healthy conversation can happen.

2. Don’t have a track of mobile trends for client’s area: With users often using mobile as a searching device, the business has to turn on the mobile strategy.

3. Making traffic as goals: Traffic can often be misleading; analyzing the visitor’s site behavior can be give monition of your website’s goal.

4. Same content everywhere: Will you ever repeat the same conversation again and again to your friends? Spend time understanding user personas; find out where the new conversation is going on.

5. Outsource too much or too little? It’s always better to involve in areas like information gathering, which is the core part of digital marketing. On the other hand, you can push yourself to broaden your service or challenge your thinking by bringing in outside professionals.

6. Waiting for cat to bark? With the entire buzz about social media, clients might only want a social media strategy, that doesn’t mean that their needs end there. Get insight into your client's niche and find out what they want.

7. Not beware of best practices: Yes, you heard me! They gained success under specific circumstances, which might not suit your marketing strategies or situations. Create your own best practices and stick to it.

8. Settling for mediocrity: In the age of superior technology and unprecedented connectivity, settling for mediocrity is a crime. When direct mail marketing enjoys a 2% conversion rate, how an online marketers will be comfortable with a tremendously low 2.6% conversion rate.

9. Inconsistent in branding: Branding is not something you should compromise on your marketing campaign. Changing the image of your brand can be a good move at times and also runs the risk of confusing the loyal audiences. Be consistent while choose branding and build a loyal customer base.

10. Missing out on new marketing opportunities: Digital marketing space is expanding at a frenzied pace. If you want to stay on top of trends, analyze how the new opportunity impacts your client’s campaign.

If you’ve avoided these pitfalls. Good job. But there’s still some work to do. We need to help others to avoid these mistakes.

Vinoth is social media and search marketing professional at WebSide, a digital marketing agency located in India; He is a full time social media enthusiast, digital evangelist and a part time blogger. Showcase Your Customers

Paint Along NYC, a New York City-based company offering painting workshops, uses Facebook to build its online community. After each painting class, the instructor uploads photos of the attendees with their works of art to the Paint Along NYC Facebook Page. Each photo album is labeled with the date of the class and the item that was painted, so that customers can easily find and tag their pictures.

During class, the instructor makes sure that attendees are aware that their photos can be found on the company’s public Facebook Page.

2. Have a Sense of Humor

Humor is said to increase a person’s levels of happiness and hope, so why not share happiness via Facebook?

Jules Thin Crust, a group of organic pizza shops in Pennsylvania, runs its Facebook Page with humor and community in mind. Operated by owner John Ordway and multiple store managers, the Jules Facebook Page has a very homey feeling. The Jules social media team doesn’t take itself too seriously — an advantage that many small businesses have over large branding-dominated corporations. When Facebook fans joke around, Jules Facebook admins are comfortable jumping right in there with the fun. The casual tone used by Jules staffers --and the fact that they personally know some of the fans — makes the updates more personable, relevant and relatable.

3. Give ‘Em Something To Consume

With such high engagement stats, Facebook has brands and content creators turning heads. Etsy, the commerce platform for handmade goods, is among the brands on Facebook that understands its following and then creates and curates content to fit its needs.

As expected, Etsy’s Facebook Page features a stream of the quirkiest products that are offered on its site. But the page also features a fair amount of original and curated content, including blog posts and videos that would be of interest to its followers. Some of the content originates from the Etsy Blog. While many of the links and videos are purely for fun, these pieces often start conversations among Etsy fans on the Page.

4. Ask Questions

It’s not enough to be broadcasting promotional messages — brands should make an effort at engaging with their audiences. Asking questions is a great way to kick off that two-way dialogue.

Take a look at any brand page on Facebook — it’s quite likely that posts with questions get more action than ones without questions. ReadyMade magazine, for example, mixes up the format of posts on its Facebook Page. Posts with questions seem to prompt more conversation, especially if the question is easy to answer. People are inclined to offer their opinions, especially when it’s so simple to get involved.

5. Take Us Behind the Curtain

Whether you own a restaurant, a tech startup or a construction company, your customers are interested in who works at your company and what goes on behind the scenes. And so, providing a glimpse behind the curtain can be an effective and engaging way to populate your Facebook Page.

You may think there aren’t many ways to make a car dealership more interesting or welcoming, but a well-run Facebook Page helps one New Jersey dealership exude a friendly vibe. Lester Glenn Auto Group uses Facebook to promote the cars it sells, announce philanthropic projects and make small talk with customers. Recent posts about holidays and summer camps have seen success relative to other posts, probably because of their non-promotional and down-to-earth tone.

The page also features lots of pictures from inside the dealership, including ones that highlight employees and events. A recent post, for example, celebrates the birthday of Internet Sales Rep Stacy Myers. These depictions of life at the dealership give fans a look inside the company, and they also help to humanize the brand.

Original Article published on Mashable.com

New Optimization Tips for Facebook Pages

It’s been a little more than a year since Facebook first introduced the now ubiquitous Like button, and a significant update three months ago has given users the ability to add comments and increased the button’s visibility for the benefit of merchants, marketers and brands.

But how does the Like button impact e-commerce websites where it counts most, in terms of traffic volume, conversions and revenue? Not surprisingly, Facebook recently shared some favorable statistics of its own, along with some tips on how to best leverage the Like button. Separately, Facebook marketing platform Buddy Media recently released some similar case studies as well as suggestions for how to propel your Facebook content to the top of the News Feed.

We have consolidated much of that data here because it is definitely a worthwhile look for merchants, but we would also like to hear about your own experiences with the Like button and Facebook social plugins in the comments section below.

Facebook Optimization Tips For Pages

1. Allowing users to add comments will significantly increase the number of clicks on the Like button

2. Display Like buttons at both the top and bottom of your posted content

3. Clicks increase dramatically when Like buttons appear near videos, images, infographics and other visual content

4. Like buttons that display thumbnail images of friends will receive three to five times more clicks than versions that don’t

5. Ask questions of users on your Fan pages, such as “Would you like …?” and “Would you prefer … ?”

6. Post fun and interactive content such as games, trivia questions and polls

7. Incorporate coupons and discounts on your Wall

8. Post time-sensitive content and relate to current events

9. Post videos and video tutorials

10. Include links to additional content

10 Facebook Optimization Tips - By Website Magazine

Facebook Tutorials | Social Media Marketing with Facebook and Twitter

Facebook Tutorials | Social Media Marketing with Facebook and Twitter

Making the Most of Social Media

Using social media for your business is a sensible and cost-effective way to market, brand, and sell your products and services. Social media is here to stay and it will continue to be more and more popular. It is very important that you leverage social media in the most effective manner possible so that your success multiplies exponentially.

To ensure a winning social media marketing campaign, you will have to set objectives, create timelines, measure performances, conduct in-depth research, and implement clever strategies to outfox your competition.

Here are some tips of getting the most out of your social media initiatives:

Getting Started – Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Blogger, YouTube, Ning and many more. Interaction over these websites must be frequent and consistent in order to best engage your prospective customers. Create a list of five websites to begin this connection and multiply it in the same ratio as if you could afford to put in more time and resources.

Quality Content – An underlying strategy that will drive your social media initiatives toward a logical conclusion is having quality content. Providing content of value will help attract genuine prospects to your social media platforms.

Two-Way Participation – You will have to regularly engage in the activities of people in your network before expecting the favor returned. Networking on social media platforms is a two-way effort and must be dealt with consistently if you expect concrete results.

Design and Development – There is a lot that you can achieve by tweaking your social networking websites and personalizing them to reflect the look and feel of your business to create a strong “Brand Recall.” For example, try exploring top business pages on Facebook and you will be amazed to see the monumental effort made by companies to design and develop applications from scratch.

The Right Platforms – Finding the right platforms where your audiences are most active will form a big part of your initial research strategy.

Analyzing Competition – Analyzing the online endeavors of your business competition can provide valuable insights into how you should approach your social media strategy.

Online Tools – Using online tools such as HootSuite to manage various social media accounts will save you a lot of time and effort.

Stop Being Pushy – If you continue to thrust sales matter upon people in your network, you will soon lose their interest. You need to have a meaningful dialogue with your target audience, share information and subtly push forward your sales agenda on an occasional basis.

Web Analytics – Little or no cost online web analytical tools like Google Analytics can offer valuable insights while preparing social media strategies. You can learn a lot and improve upon these strategies by reviewing analytical information such as which webpage attracted the maximum traffic or the keyword that was instrumental in bringing an online searcher to your website.

In conclusion, it is very important to emphasize that sustained efforts and a relentless pursuit of your social media objectives will definitely pay off richly. These will usually not be overnight results and instead appear over a period of time in the form of leads, sales and the invaluable awareness about your products/services. Stay on the job and keep working in a systematic manner, keeping the above tips in mind.

About the Author.
Marco Giunta is a Senior Business Development Executive and the author of the book: Rethinking Sales. The site's is developed out on the Wordpress content management system. We also set up their Facebook business page and tied in the social media tools back to the main site.

We had a lot of fun with this one! To view the live site, click here.

New Rules for 21st Century Business

It is a myth to believe that working long hours at a frantic pace makes you productive. By now most of us recognize that overwork and stress cause everything from a lack of creativity to stress-related illnesses. Taking better care of ourselves makes good business sense. If you don’t believe me, try an experiment. Incorporate some of the new rules below for the next 30 days and see what happens. If you adopt some of these rules and put them into practice you’ll find that you not only get more done at work, you create more time for your life.
New Rules for 21st Century Business

I take lunch everyday and do something unrelated to work. For example, I get out of the office and take a walk, listen to a relaxation tape, or visit with a friend.

I work reasonable hours. On most days, I arrive at _____ and leave by _____.

I schedule “breathing room” every day so I can step back, re-evaluate my priorities and be sure that I am working on what really matters.

I do whatever it takes to create a healthy work environment. I keep my office free of clutter and if necessary, I use a clean air filter, full spectrum lighting, and I always keep a reserve of water nearby.

I have an “Absolute Yes” list for work (a 3″ x 5″ index card with my top five priorities listed in order of importance) and I refer to it often.

I train myself to consistently look for ways to delegate work in order to empower others while I honor my Absolute Yes list.

I hire only highly competent, talented people to support my efforts.

I ask family and friends to honor my work time by eliminating non-essential personal calls and interruptions.

I coordinate my work schedule to remove distractions and interruptions. For example, I design blocks of uninterrupted, focused time and I only check voicemail and e-mail twice a day (keep breathing on this one).

I stop taking on more than I can handle. When asked to take on a project, I check to be sure that I can complete the assignment without suffering or sacrificing my self-care.

Think of these rules as part of a 21st Century job description. Putting them into practice may be challenging at first, but I can assure you that if you do, you’ll be more effective at work and more relaxed at home.
To ensure your success, you might ask a co-worker, fellow self-employed friend, or partner to try the 30-day experiment with you. If you work for someone else, be sure to let your boss and/or co-workers know ahead of time that you’ll be using these new rules to challenge yourself to be more focused and productive during the day. Invite them to join you in discovering how self-care at work translates into bottom line results.

Take Action Challenge
Create your own 21st Century job profile. Cut and paste the above list into a file and customize it to fit your needs. When you have your new rules in place, print it out and hang it on the wall in your office. Review the list each day and pay close attention to how your workday and personal life improve over time.

This week’s video is a fun one from The X-Factor. You’ll find it here.

Life Makeover for the Year 2011(sm) is written and produced by Cheryl Richardson.© Copyright 1999-2009 Cheryl Richardson, P.O. However, the web can only work for small businesses if their websites are affordable, attractive and effective. Let's start by addressing those biases for what business websites should be:

Affordable

Custom web design usually costs thousands of dollars. Some of the best web development companies charge on average $3,000-5,000 just to start talking. Many charge a lot more. That's hardly affordable for most small businesses. Web design should be affordable.

Attractive

An affordable website shouldn't mean an ugly website. You should be proud of your site -- proud enough to make it your number one marketing tool. It should be attractive, appealing and representative of who you and your business are. It should give customers confidence and not leave people rolling their eyes at outdated styles.

Effective

A pretty website is nothing if it isn't effective. If all you have is eye candy, you're wasting your time. We wholeheartedly and fundamentally believe that your website should do something for your business. A lot of beautiful websites with music and fancy graphics have won awards, but those sites are useless if you can't find information and accomplish something. Small businesses can't afford to have websites that don't deliver. With that foundation in mind, let's move on to the seven keys to a successful website.

7 Keys to an Effective Website

7 Keys To Effective Websites For Small Businesses, Artists, Entrepreneurs, Job Seekers, Career Professionals and more..

1. Get a Website You Can Control
2. Start Talking to Google
3. Get Blogging
4. Help Customers Easily Contact You
5. Build a Following
6. Motivate Actions
7. Evaluate and Refine

1. Get a Website You Can Control

A lot of business owners who already have a website, often complain that they canʼt change their own website. They either don't have the power, access or skill to make changes and updates.

IMPORTANT! You should have the keys to your own website. The easiest way to get control of your website is with a content management system (CMS)--fancy web lingo for web-based software (Like Wordpress) that lets you easily manage and change your website. It gives you the power to do things like add new pages, upload photos, change text and more. If you can operate Microsoft Word, you can use most content management systems.

Now, with saying all this, some people simply donʼt want to mess with changing their own website. No worries! Just keep in mind that if you had your site built on a CMS system - when you hire someone to manage and update your website, it will take them less time and save you money.

2. Start Talking to Google

Millions of people each day go to Google to find products, articles, photos, news and more. And some of those people are looking for the product or service you offer. So as a business owner with a product or service to sell—you want your website and business to be listed on the first page in Googleʼs search results.

Google uses mathematical algorithms to determine who gets ranked highly in their search results and itʼs based on a number of factors including keywords that appear on your site, links from other websites and other reasons.

You can boost where your site appears in search engine results by positioning your site
to take advantage of a process called search engine optimization (SEO). Content management systems organically are optimized and also have some great back end tools for you to manage your keywords and categories that help with site optimization.

3. Get Blogging

The simple power of blogging (posting news and articles to your website) is still going strong and it's something you can easily harness for your business.

Blogging is great for SEO - Google and all other search engines LOVE blogs!

Blogs make it EXTREMELY easy for you to optimize your site for SEO and the search engines. Why??? Because having a blog usually means frequently updated content, which means more for a search engine to find. It also tells the search engines that your website has new fresh information and is kept up to date! You never want to built a static website and leave it inactive

Blog Tips:

* Develop a Readership and Following Online
* Feed Your Blog Into Social Networks
* Teach and Share Your Expertise

Most blogs have a comment feature that invites readers to respond and share their opinion. That kind of open and public interaction can be scary, but it also opens the door to be more personal and connect with your customers. That personal connection can be a way to better answer customer questions, get ideas and feedback for improvement, and ultimately lead to more sales.

4. Help Customers Easily Contact You

Your website should make it easy for customers to get in touch with you. Besides displaying your phone number, email address and preferred contact information -- you should also consider using online contact form or a "Live Chat" tool - so customers can reach you 24/7. The best part about an online form is you can gather whatever information you need and direct it to whomever in your organization should be responding to it.

NOTE: Adding a simple contact form increased inquiries for most products and services dramatically. As a result, you can hone in your process for responding to those potential customers and turn them into paying clients.

5. Build a Following

As weʼve touched on, a blog is a great way to begin building readership and return visits to your website. But there are other ways to build a following through hot social networking sites like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.

Make sure your website and social media profiles are connected! That's one of the easiest ways to build a following. You can and should also use the tried-and-true email newsletter. Put an opt-in subscription form on your site and offer special discounts, announcements and even free offers for your products.

IMPORTANT! Your website should be the 'main home base' ... 'the central clearinghouse' for all these ways of connecting with your fans, your clients, your customers.... etc.

6. Motivate Actions

Business websites should not be static. They shouldn't just sit there, passively letting web surfers absorb information and move on. Your website should do something for your business.

Your site should be persuading potential customers to do whatever it is you want them to do.

Maybe you want them to contact you. Maybe it's clicking a 'buy it now' button on your site. Maybe it's printing off a coupon and coming to your store. Maybe it's spreading the word about your services. Simply put, your site needs to prompt call to action.

If your site has no call to action, then what's it doing?

And whatever action you want people to take, be sure your site steers them to that response easily and simply, with minimal effort needed from them. Because if they miss it, you're the one who misses out.

7. Evaluate and Refine

The best thing about the Internet is that just about anything can be tracked and by its very nature it's always changing. Those are two very big bonuses when it comes to a having a personal or business website on a CMS system. It means you can figure out what's working, what isn't and make changes to improve.

A free stat program like Google's Analytics is a good place to start. It lets you track keywords, what sites link to you and even the location of visitors to your site. You need to be tracking your website's stats so you can refine and improve the site and continue getting the results you want.

And if it's not working? Try something else. The ever-changing nature of the Internet means you can tweak and change your site until you find the magic combination that works.

Abridged: Webdesign.com

Facebook Social e-Commerce - Does it work?

The short answer? Yes!

The long answer?
Yes, but while social commerce is e-commerce, you have to think about your social commerce efforts a little differently. Time for an analogy!

John is driving 70 miles per hour on the Interstate and has a 28-minute drive to visit his girlfriend. During this commute he passes 390 billboards. Each billboard has only seconds to get John’s attention. John’s not entirely focused on the billboards as he’s listening to the radio and, hopefully, focusing on the road. Your brand is advertising on one of the billboards. How are you going to grab John’s attention?

Facebook is the Interstate your fans are driving on, and those fans are “driving” an average of 28 minutes each, per day. Your post is one of 390 “billboards” that passes by every day on an average user’s News Feed. That’s a lot of competition!

A Successful Social Commerce Campaign

Product – Create a product, service, or offering that you can develop a campaign around. Try to focus in on a specific product, or bundle. Notice how McDonald’s doesn’t advertise their entire menu on a billboard?

Packaging – Package this product so it is compelling! What sets this apart from other deals?

Create a Sense of Urgency – How do you accomplish this? Limited quantity, limited time, limited editions, or discounted prices are just a few ways.

Post Often – Your “billboard” may only be viewed by a small percentage of your fan base today. Post often and at different times of the day to reach your entire fan base.

Think of your campaigns as grabbing John’s attention on the social commerce Interstate and you’ll begin seeing great results.

<fieldset class="bio">

<legend>About Brent Moseng</legend> Mr. Moseng brings a decade of experience in business development to Moontoast, serving as VP of Operations and Finance, responsible for the day-to-day operations of the company. Setting up and maintaining a profile for anything other than an individual person is a violation of Facebook’s Statement of Rights & Responsibilities. If you don’t convert your profile to a page you will run the risk of permanently losing access to the profile and all of the associated content.

Below are details you need to know about converting your personal page to a business page. I have included direct links to the Facebook help section and instructions for converting the profile. I highly encourage you to review all of the associated material BEFORE converting your page. It is a permanent action. Do NOT expect help from Facebook if you inadvertently convert a page.

The Scenario:
1. You were new to Facebook and didn’t understand the terms and conditions. You setup a Personal Profile as a business page.
2. The second possibility is that you did understand the Facebook terms and conditions but chose to setup a Personal Profile as your business profile anyway. You assumed the risk and knew at some point you would have to deal with the situation. Well, that time is now friends.

How to Know if You Have a Business Page or a Personal Profile?
The number #1 way you can tell if your page is a personal profile and not an official business page is if you can send and accept friend requests. Only personal profiles are enabled to send and receive friend requests. Business pages can only have “likes”.

How to Convert Your Personal Profile to a Business Page:
1. Review the Facebook Help Section on this Topic here
2. Notify the friends of your personal profile page that you will be converting the page to a business page as required by Facebook terms and conditions.
3. Make a back-up of your personal profile information prior to the conversion. All of your personal profile information will not be transferred to the new business page nor saved by default. It is your responsibility to save and back-up this information if you want to keep a copy. You can learn how to back-up and copy the information here.
4. Complete the conversion process paying close attention to every detail. The conversion is permanent and you will lose data during conversion if you do not perform a back-up.
5. Develop and execute a marketing, engagement and post-like plan on your new business page that supports your business goals and objectives. Remember, it’s what happens after the like that matters. You may need to work to keep some of your prior “friends” as “likers.” Communication is key in providing value for them to continue to “like” your new business page.
6. Don’t forget to change any redirect urls and domains you had pointing to your personal page. Make note also of any business cards, email signatures, social networks which included the old url path.

Why Convert the Personal Profile Page You Have Been Using as a Business Page to an Official Facebook Business Page?
1. Maintaining the business page as a personal profile is a violation of Facebook’s Statement of Rights & Responsibilities.
2. If you don’t convert your page to a business page you increase your risk of permanently losing all of your content and access to the page all together.

What Happens Upon Conversion?
1. All of your profile pictures will be transferred to the new business page.
2. All of your content will NOT be transferred to the new business page. Information such as photo albums, profile information will not be transferred.
3. All of your friends on the personal page will automatically become “likers” on the new business page.
4. The account associated with your old personal profile will be converted to a business account.
5. The business account will be the sole admin of your new page until you add another admin.

What Personal Information is Downloaded During the Back-Up Process?

Personal profile information (groups, information, interests, contacts etc.)

Photos & videos

Wall posts

Status updates

Content that your friends have uploaded

Friend lists

Notes

Messages sent and received

Events that you have RSVPd for

Comments you have received and made on walls, photos etc.

Success Tips & Important Reminders:

1. The conversion is permanent.
2. You can NOT transfer your personal profile page to an existing business page (fan page).
3. If you are using a personal page as a business page, I highly encourage you to complete the conversion to a business page. I have seen many people lose their pages due to breaking the terms of personal vs. business pages. Don’t risk it! It is better to do it when you are in control than if Facebook decides to do it for you!

Original Article on Pammarketingnut.com

Prayer for Japan: A Japanese Monk Sent this Prayer Request

The damage of the earthquake in Japan is devastating.
Unable to cool down the reactor, we are facing a possibility of nuclear
transplant explosion.
Please join our prayer. Such is the case with “Google Circles,” the newest title given to Google’s social network, which was allegedly announced at South by Southwest over the weekend.

The problem is that Google never made the announcement, and that Google representatives – including Chris Messina, who is part of Google’s social division – have outright denied the claims of the story. They won’t comment, however, on the Google Circles name, or the supposed advantages that are rumored to accompany the release of this (mythical?) product.

According to the initial reports, Google Circles is designed to be a social product that integrates pictures, videos, and status updates, but allows for greater privacy for users. This includes through sending messages only to specific groups – which sounds quite a lot like Beluga, a mobile project designed by former Googlers.
So, will Google be giving us “Circles” in the upcoming months? It’s hard to say.

We certainly know that the company will be entering the social scene (they’ve been excruciatingly clear on that point), but the name (“Google+1,” “GoogleMe,” “Google Circles,” or even “Emerald Sea”) isn’t certain, nor are the advantages.
